Though he’s specifically talking about television, I find this particular segment of Ira Glass’s On Storytelling series (the other four of which are available on YouTube) a great pep-talk on sucking & stick-to-itiveness. I feel creative people are more susceptible to self-doubt than non-creative types because there’s so much on the line – the taking of yourself & putting it out there for others to see & openly, sometimes too enthusiastically, judge. It can be so easy to internalize the hateful things that others project, whether this hate is directed at your creative endeavors or otherwise, & knowing that others have faced the same insecurities, coped with the falling short of perfection, & still gone on to create great things – this fills me with such hope, such joy.

Thanks, Ira. You always know just what to say.
